online book club

In this time of social distancing and shutdowns, many of us are looking for positive ways to connect to one another.  First Regional Library is proud to announce two new online book clubs to help book lovers connect! In each group, we will be meeting weekly via Zoom Video Conferencing. The link to each meeting will be posted the night before on the First Regional Library Facebook page. Don’t have Zoom installed on your computer or device? Find out how HERE.

Readers can check out an ebook or e-audiobook of each title – while supplies last – with an FRL library card. If you aren’t already using the Overdrive digital service, or even if you don’t already have a library card, you may easily register for both HERE.

Better than Therapy Book Club
Escape your stress by relaxing into a beautiful story, then enjoy discussing it online! The Better Than Therapy Online Book Club will be focused on delightful, joyful, and uplifting reads.
The club will meet to discuss weekly Wednesday mornings at 11:00 a.m.
Our first read is The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin, and we will discuss it April 8th at 11:00 a.m.
Our second read is Perennials by Julie Cantrell, and we will discuss it April 15th at 11:00 a.m.
Our third read is The Story of Arthur Truluv by Elizabeth Berg, and we will discuss it April 22nd at 11:00 a.m.
Books about outbreaks, disasters, and pandemics are having their best sales ever. There’s something reassuring for some of us about reading fictionalized or historical accounts of real pandemics in the midst of a real one, engaging in a vicarious confronting and overcoming of our anxieties. The Facing Our Fears Book Club will tackle books about historical or imagined outbreaks and pandemics.
The club will meet weekly to discuss, Friday mornings at 11:00 a.m.
Our first read is Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel, and we will discuss it April 10th at 11:00 a.m.
Our second read is The Doomsday Book by Connie Willis, and we will discuss it April 17th at 11:00 a.m.
Our third read is The American Plague by Molly Caldwell Crosby, and we will discuss it April 25th at 11:00 a.m
